Kathmandu: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' is set to take a crucial vote of confidence from the House of Representatives (HoR) today, as mandated by Article 100 (2) of the Constitution. This move comes in response to recent divisions within the political party he represents, necessitating a validation of his leadership within 30 days.

The decision to seek a vote of confidence follows the withdrawal of support from the Janata Samajwadi Party, a key constituent of the coalition government, led by former Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Upendra Yadav.

According to Rule 155 of the HoR Regulations 2079 BS, Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to present the motion for a vote of confidence during today's parliamentary session. The outcome hinges on securing approval from a majority of all members of the House of Representatives, with the Speaker overseeing the process.

Ahead of the critical session, Speaker's press advisor Shekhar Adhikari announced a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee convened to discuss the issue, highlighting the significance of this parliamentary event.

The vote of confidence unfolds amidst the ongoing fourth session of the federal parliament, which commenced on May 10. Notably, the government's annual policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2081/82 BS were already presented during the joint sitting of Parliament on May 28.
